Operative and Scientific Structures

Equipment and/or Laboratories

Research groups at the Department of Chemical Sciences are equipped with laboratories suitable for carrying out research activities ranging from synthesis to characterization in: biochemistry, computational chemistry, physical chemistry, industrial chemistry, organic chemistry, peptide chemistry, chemistry of proteins and nucleic acids, polymer science and nanostructures (link). At Department of Chemical Sciences there are also laboratories equipped with advanced instrumentations for spectroscopy, microscopy, structural and biophysical characterization of molecules, mass spectrometry (link). Researchers of the Department can access at international "Large Scale Facilities".

Books

The PhD student can use the impressive collection of books of the University of Naples Federico II, containing over 2 million volumes and almost 2,800 subscriptions to printed journals; 53,000 subscriptions to electronic journals; subscriptions to 67 databases and 120,000 e-books (link).

The Department also provides a library with journals and scientific books on the different research topics developed by the department's members.

The University guarantees online access to all the most important scientific journals covering the research topics of the PhD in Chemical Sciences (link). High-impact journals are contained in the following editorial packages: ACS, Annual Reviews, Cell Press, RSC Gold, Nature, Science, Springer, ELSEVIER, RSC, Wiley Interscience.

E-resources

Databases. Integrated Electronic Resources Services (SireLib) are available. These services allow the access to resources acquired by the University, including several Databases (such as SciFinder, ISI-Web of Science, Scopus, Technology Research Database, Library and Information Science Abstract-LISA, MedLine, etc.). In addition, access to main international Databanks of scientific data is possible.

Software. The research groups hosting PhD students possess software related to their specific research activities. Among the many software that are available in our Department there are, for example, software for molecular graphics and bioinformatics, for spectroscopic data processing, for mass spectra processing, for proteomics and glycomics, for the analysis of kinetic data, for the simulation of chemical processes and computational chemistry programs.

Thanks to the Information Services Center (CSI), PhD students have access to student licenses of major common software. Furthermore, thay have access to all the services offered by the CSI, including Wi-Fi at all the university's locations, e-mail, "Filesender".

Spaces and resources for PhD students and for electronic calculations

PhD students carry out their research activities within the spaces assigned to a group of the Department. They have a workstation and access to wet and informatic laboratories. In the Department there is also an informatic laboratory (laboratory 0P-02, equipped with 25 stations) dedicated to students and PhD students.
