Chemical Sciences - University of Naples "Federico II"

 

How to apply 

The full text of the call for admission of applicants to the PhD Program in Chemical Sciences, and the list of PhD Programs with reserved positions for foreigners are available at the webpage 

(in order to enter there, please, set previously your browser in English). 

 

Deadline for applications will be May 27, 2021 (hr 12:00  pm CET) 

To apply to the above PhD Program in Chemical Sciences, candidates should have obtained MSc degree (or a corresponding academic qualification, also obtained from a foreign University). 

Candidates, who will graduate by October 31st, 2021 can also apply. In such a case, candidates will be admitted conditionally, and they have to deliver a provisional degree certificate to the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, by November 5th, 2021. 

The equivalence of the degree of the candidates graduated abroad will be evaluated on the basis of the documents attached by the candidate to the application form. 

Starting date: presumably November 1st, 2021 

Duration: 3 years 

 

The number of positions for the Ph.D. in Chemical Science are 12, supported as follows: 

  • Student grants: 7 (1 reserved to applicants graduated abroad). 

  • Positions without grants: 3 (1 reserved to applicants graduated at "An-Najah National University", Nablus, Palestine). 

  • Positions reserved for students with scholarship granted from a foreign Country: 2. 

  • Other additional positions with specific research themes are on the way to be finalized.

Admission to the selection for reserved positions 

The selection for positions reserved to candidates with a foreign degree, or to students with scholarships granted by a foreign Country, will be based on both the assessment of the qualifications and an interview. 

Candidates for reserved positions must attach to their applications the following documents: 

  • Master Degree certificate, with the final marks and the academic curriculum, including the indication of the specific study program attended and of all the examinations taken, their marks and a short description of their contents. If these documents are not in Italian, English, French, Spanish or German language, then a legal translation into one of these languages is required. 

  • Reference letters. Please include in the application the names and contact information of at least two faculty members who can send us their recommendation letters. 

  • Curriculum vitae. 

  • Any further scientific/academic qualification and information that in your judgment should be taken into account. 

 

The application form, duly filled in, together with all documents, must be sent digitally under penalty of exclusion, by and not later than May 27, 2021 (hr 12:00 pm  CET), to phdnafedericoii@unina.it 

 

Results concerning the assessment of degrees and qualifications of the selection will be posted on this website on July 1st, 2021; shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by web-conference (e.g. skype or Microsoft TEAMS ) starting from July 6th, 2021. 

 

Selection process for reserved positions 

Selection of candidates for reserved positions will consist of a preselection (with a shortlist) based on the documentation included in the application, and a subsequent oral examination or web-conference based interview (e.g. using skype or similar), producing a legally valid identity document. 

To evaluate the candidates, the Admission Board is provided with a maximum of 40 marks to assess the qualifications, and with a maximum of 60 marks for the oral examination. 

To be admitted to the oral exam, the candidate must obtain no less than 24/40 in the assessment of his/her qualification. 

To pass the oral exam, the candidate must get at least 36/60 marks. 

 

Selection process for not reserved positions 

Selection will be based on assessment of the qualifications, and oral examination. 

The Admission Board can assign a total amount of 100 marks, assigned as here stated: a maximum of 20 for the assessment of the qualifications, and a maximum of 80 for the oral examination. 

To be admitted to the oral exam, the candidate must get no less than 8/20 in the assessment of his/her qualifications. 

To pass the oral exam, the candidate must get at least 48/80 marks. 

The results relating to the evaluation of qualifications and curriculum will be published on July 1st, 2021. The oral exam will take place remotely, starting from July 6th, 2021. Candidates will be advised of the exact date and time of the interview. 

 

The oral exam will focus on the discussion of a research project, chosen by the candidate among those available for the cycle in question, or proposed by the candidate him/herself. 

The basic knowledge of the chemical disciplines will be ascertained, especially concerning the project discussed. 

Finally, knowledge of the English language will be assessed.
