Research

Design, synthesis and characterization of novel π-conjugated materials for applications in different fields of organic electronics and photonics

  • Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC):  metal free photosensitizers for n-type and p-type DSSC. Tuning of the optical properties of the dyes by suitable functionalization of a common molecular motif.
  • Organic semiconductors: conjugated materials (small molecules or polymeric) as active materials for bulk-heterojunction solar cells and/or organic field effect transistors (OFET). Focus on strong electron acceptor building blocks to achieve air stable n-type transport.
  • Fluorescent materials: organic or metallo-organic materials characterized by high fluorescence quantum yield (in solution and/or in the solid state). Applications as active material in the field of OLED and sensors.
  • Crystal Engineering:  Crystal structures driven by the formation of H bonds; acentric and polar crystal structures; structures with p-stacking; structures with pseudosymmetry and high Z'; polymorphism and topotactic transitions; dynamic effects in solid state transitions; tautomerism in N-rich fused-ring heterocycles.
  • Optical materials: azo-materials and photopolymers for applications in nonlinear optics, photonics and holographic devices. Study of light-driven mass migration by one- and two-photon absorption.
