Title: Glycoconjugate carbene Pt(IV) complexes: synthesis, characterization and cytotoxic activity

Summary of the research: Platinum compounds have been widely used in chemotherapeutic treatments for about 40 years. Despite their success, they often involve the insurgence of dramatic side effects and drug resistance which reduce the efficacy of the therapy. The Group of Organometallic Chemistry (METOR Group) at the Department of Chemical Sciences is widely focused on the research of new potential anticancer agents following the strategy of glycoconjugation, a stated alternative to reduce the collateral effects of Pt-based therapy. Currently, promising results have been obtained in the study of molecules that have shown better performances compared with the common platinum-based drugs.
